Invitation to host INMP 2029 Conference

INVITATION TO HOST THE INMP CONFERENCE IN 2029

Applications are invited from interested museums, institutions, universities and cities to host the 13th conference of the International Network of Museums for Peace, in 2029.

A proposal form is available below, in which you will be asked to indicate the scale of event you could organise and host, the likely costs for participants, the potential for including participants from non-OECD countries, and other relevant issues.

INMP would promote the conference and give it a high profile, providing great encouragement to members, and to those in related networks, to participate in this conference. All financial considerations and budgets would be the responsibility of the host body.

A regular 3-yearly cycle of international conferences is key to the essential networking of INMP, its members and supporters. It gives an opportunity for peace, history and museum professionals, volunteers, academics and activists from a local region and around the world to make presentations, share ideas and network with each other. It can enrich the life of the host community and enhance its own witness for peace.

The 11th conference, in Uppsala, Sweden in 2023, attracted around 150 participants.

The forthcoming 12th conference will be hosted by the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Winnipeg, 12-14 August 2026 (with extensions to 16 August); the successful applicant will be invited to attend this 12th conference.

Reports of previous conferences can be seen at https://inmp.net/Conference.aspx.

Kazuyo Yamane, 1951-2025. Online Memorial, 16 August 2025

International Network of Museums for Peace

Kazuyo Yamane, 1951-2025

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Kazuyo Yamane, on Thursday 17th July 2025. She was one of the founder members of our Network, and a Senior Advisor to INMP. She attended most INMP conferences, including the founding conference in Bradford in 1992. She was long associated with Grassroots House, Kochi, telling the truth of Japanese imperial history. She had a key role in the Japanese Citizens’ Network of Museums for Peace, and ensured its newsletter was translated into English to reach international readers. Also, she served as vice-director of Kyoto Museum for World Peace, Ritsumeikan University.

Kazuyo was passionate about peace education, nuclear disarmament, and the role of peace museums in reconciliation, not least the way Grassroots House built relationships with museums in South Korea and China. She wrote academic papers about peace museums and, in Kyoto, contributed to the administration of INMP. She was on the editorial board of the Journal of Peace Education. Even in her final months of illness, she continued to explore publications and to promote INMP. Holding in herself a quiet gentleness with a passionate commitment to peace, Kazuyo was a wonderful ambassador of museums for peace and peace education. May she rest in peace.
